After 30 months of hard work — rebuilding collapsed walls, underpinning all the existing walls, installing an entire insulated limecrete ground floor, replacing all window and door lintels, replacing all floor beams and floor joists, and completely renewing the entire roof structure, and so much more, all with traditional materials and methods — we are finally approaching the final works required to create a stable, waterproof structure.

During this time we have had concept designs carried out for the future sustainable use of Island House. We have carried out extensive research on the existing building, proving the roof timbers of the north range date to 1437. We have carried out extensive archaeological works with Dyfed Archaeology, Aberystwyth and Lincoln Universities, which have included ground investigation work from the foreshore to Clifton Street.

The works and investigations are exhaustive and still ongoing. We must acknowledge Laugharne Town Council for their support, which includes the access and use of the Foreshore, without which the works we have carried out would have been almost impossible. We would also like to acknowledge the support and advice we have received from CADW and Carmarthenshire County Council.
